Quilts: Their Story and How to Make Them
By Marie D. Webster. First published by Doubleday, Page and Company in 1915; this copy is the 1916 printing.
Marie D. Webster of Marion, Indiana, wrote the first book of quilt history published in America. Doubleday, Page and Company brought it out in 1915. It traces patchwork from ancient Egypt to the American farmhouse, explains how quilts are pieced, appliqued and quilted, and lists hundreds of old quilt names. Her own quilt designs appear in the color plates.
The whole book is here, in 11 parts, with its color plates, black and white photographs and quilting designs.
